Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is TapCard and how does it work?

TapCard sits neatly along the edge of your macOS Dock (bottom, left, or right). When hovering or triggered, all running application windows are showcased in a smooth strip of live preview cards. Clicking any card instantly elevates that window to the foreground, making multi-window navigation effortless.

How do I toggle the card strip and access Preferences?

TapCard runs quietly in background Accessory Mode, living in your system menu bar without occupying space on your Dock. Single-click the menu bar icon to show or hide the strip. Right-click (or Control-click) the menu bar icon to bring up the context menu to open "Preferences..." or quit the application.

Why does TapCard require "Screen Recording" permission?

TapCard utilizes Apple's official ScreenCaptureKit framework to capture real-time visual thumbnails of running application windows locally. This is a standard macOS security permission. All captures are processed solely in volatile local memory, never written to disk, and never transmitted over any network.

Why does TapCard require "Accessibility" permission?

When you click a window card in the strip, TapCard uses macOS Accessibility APIs to accurately raise and activate the target application window to the foreground.

Does TapCard consume significant battery or CPU?

Not at all. TapCard is engineered with an ultra-low-power event-driven architecture. When the strip is hidden or inactive, screen capture timers are completely shut down (0% CPU usage). Frame captures occur on-demand only when hovering over cards or switching window focus, keeping your Mac cool and preserving battery life.

How does TapCard handle a large number of open windows?

TapCard features an intelligent accordion layout. When you have a few windows, cards are spaced evenly. When numerous windows exceed the screen width, cards stack neatly with negative margins like a deck of playing cards. Hovering over any card gently pushes neighboring cards aside, raising the active card with smooth elevation.

Are multi-monitor setups and side Dock placements supported?

Yes. TapCard automatically senses whether your Dock is placed at the bottom, left, or right edge, and roams seamlessly between screens whenever your Dock switches displays. You can also turn on "Filter Current Screen Only" in Preferences for single-screen focus.

How do I enable Launch at Login?

Open TapCard "Preferences..." and enable "Launch at Login" under the "General" tab. TapCard will automatically start in the background upon system login.

Does TapCard collect any personal data?

No. TapCard runs entirely on your local Mac and does not transmit any data over the network. It contains zero tracking or analytics SDKs. For complete details, please read our Privacy Policy.
